As a photographer and illustrator I seek to find that realm of confusion that an attempt at creating meaning generates. I challenge myself to build on ideas so that my work becomes something grand in scale and definition. I see both of these fields of creation as doorways into the minds eye, allowing for an introspective gaze at what truly defines my thoughts. Creation manifests itself with many tools along the way; urban landscapes, sculptural elements, digital development, gesture sketching, light exposure manipulation. With the use of these tools, I am able to deliver truth and beauty, making the meaning of the piece create itself, for each person, allowing ambiguity to devour thoughts.
From July of 2001, I have been extremely interested in the arena of photography which allows for thought to be misplaced, nearly forgotten, focusing on the abstract realism. This creates a sense of naturalism, which allows for the viewer to connect with the piece as something tangible. The sheer visual presence of the piece is all that remains and the viewer is then left with many questions and afterthoughts as to what led to their initial intrigue. This mysterious quality captivates my audience, as well as entrancing me, the artist.
In 2004, my work began to transform, and focus shifted to encapsulate moments of my travels around the globe. As a result, I have found that I possess a certain talent for showing people in their truest moments. Contained in “Colored Black & White,” casually precise moments are revealed with a certainty of truth. Through my use of color, and the choice to omit color, I am making an attempt to share the staggering allure of these strong willed Africans, while also shedding light on the powers and strengths these great people possess.
The growing form of expression that is street art is in fact where my current fascinations lie. After traveling to 40 countries in the last 3 years, capturing a viewpoint of balance with subdued symmetry has become the keynote theme in my documentation of this fairly new art. The focus lies on the environments color composition, saturation, and the interaction of the artists piece with its surroundings.
